‘Duty-free despite Brexit: Successful returns processing thanks to fast and efficient solution’
On 7 June 2023, SKF Marine GmbH was faced with a demanding challenge. A high-quality system that had been shipped to the UK before Brexit was now to be imported to Germany. The option of importing for free circulation would have entailed considerable import duties, and as there was no preferential origin for the goods, an alternative was required.
The innovative and duty-safe solution was to declare the equipment as returned goods. However, this required export documents that were not available due to the pre-Brexit delivery.
In order to overcome this challenge, it was decided at short notice to create comprehensive documentation as part of identity verification and customs controlling. In close cooperation with SKF Marine GmbH, a compliant set of documents was procured and completed within one working day.
This efficient co-operation laid a decisive foundation for the duty-free import of the system. Within a few hours, an effective and practical solution was worked out, the documentation requirements were defined and the project was successfully completed.
This fast and professional solution meant that no additional costs were incurred and the goods were received promptly and to the satisfaction of all parties.
